What's Going On Around Here?

I wake up shocked at my surroundings...this isn't my bed, this isn't my room. I look down at my hands and remember...I'm human again, no longer a vampire.

I get up and walk to the window...

All I see is a construction sight and a tall building underneath a smoggy sky...no longer can I look outside my window and see the bright blue sky and the sun shining over the beautiful ocean and the welcoming, warm quaint sights of Cornucopia. Those views are gone for me...forever? Most likely. *Sigh*

It angers me...but mostly I am saddened. How did it come to this? I suppose I need to cut all the melodrama and fill y'all in.

***A WEEK EARLIER***

It all started when Vishous came to me with a vision he had. I know I mentioned before that he has the gift of foresight. Well, with all that happened with Rachel, I fully trust his abilities.

He was worried about me when he came to me. I was still pregnant with Quinn and Tina at this point.

Vishous: Had, there's no easy way to say this...you're in danger.
Me: What are you talking about?
Vishous: Look, I don't completely understand, but I have had this dream of you screaming, running from something...something was chasing you on the beach...into the ocean. You were afraid...afraid they were going to...
Me: Kill me?
Vishous: Pretty much, yeah.

Me: Do you have any idea when this is going to happen?
Vishous: That's not how my abilities work, unfortunately...

Me: What can I do?
Vishous: Do you have any enemies in this town?
Me: *thinking* None that I know of...hell, most of the people in this town are my kids...it's a small island...there's not a whole lot of room...
Vishous: Have you done anything to piss your kids off?
Me: Every day...but not enough to make them want to hurt me.
Vishous: Hmm, well we need to figure this out...while we work on it, you're going to stay away from the ocean, true?
Me: *raise my eyebrows* It's an island...
Vishous: Try, Hadley...my visions aren't big maybes, they're definite...you feel me?

I shuffle my feet and mutter.

Vishous: You feel me?
Me: Yeah, yeah, I feel ya.

So then, all the stuff with Rachel happened and we got sidetracked...but then, Vishous got a call from his friend, Butch.

Butch: Hey V, we got problems, bro.
Vishous: What's up?
Butch: We tagged a couple lessers the other night and got them talking...they know about this whole arrangement...the other world, the kids, everything.
Vishous: So? Let them know. What's the problem?
Butch: They've been getting smart on us, man. We think they've figured out how to isolate the blood of the brothers and they use it like a damned road map...
Vishous: What?! Quit talking like Yoda and tell me straight up, cop.
Butch: Those damned vampire slayers have figured out how to follow the bloodline, and travel to that world. We've cloaked it as best we can, but it's only a matter of time before they bust through.

Vishous: Oh shit, man. That must be what the dream was about.
Butch: Aww damn, don't tell me you've had one of your visions about this.
Vishous: It was Hadley, they were after her.
Butch: Shit man, you have to get her out of there...but we need you home. You know none of us are near as savvy on this shit as you are.
Vishous: What about the kids? They're all here...all twelve now and mine is on the way...
Butch: Have to get them out of there too. There's no way around it.

Vishous: Where the hell am I going to take them, Butch? They'll still be able to track their bloodline here, right?
Butch: Yeah, I didn't think of that. And they won't have the Brothers protection...
Vishous: They have to come with me.
Butch: What?
Vishous: They have to go back with us...
Butch: Bring them here? What part of that plan is protecting them? That's like throwing them right into the lions den if you ask me, bro.
Vishous: It's dangerous, I know, but at least they'll have our protection.
Butch: Will Hadley go for that? From what I've heard, she's a bit of a ball buster.
Vishous: It'll be tough convincing her, but I got it.
Butch: Ok, so what's the plan?
Vishous: As soon as the my babies age up to adults, we get them all out.
Butch: We can't wait that long, man. We need you back here now. You're the only one who might be able to figure out how they're doing all this and stop them.
Vishous: Then you have to come.
Butch: What do you mean?
Vishous: I can't leave them unprotected until they get here, cop. You have to come here and make sure everyone is safe until my baby ages into an adult.
Butch: That's a long time, man.
Vishous: Not as long as it is in our world. You'll be surprised. It's the only way I'm going to agree to come back.
Butch: Damn, stubborn ass vamp...fine. After your baby is born, you come back here, then I come in, do the domestic shit for awhile, wait for the rugrats to turn into adults, then come back.
Vishous: Pretty much, you good at changing diapers?
Butch: Fuck you, dude.

Vishous: Nah, I'll pass...hey, send me the specs you have on this lesser plan and I'll take a look at it, then I'll get Hadley to get her vampire friend on the phone and fill him in...he's not going to be happy about this.
Butch: I would think he would be on our side, all things considered.
Vishous: Nah, he's got this possessive streak when it comes to Hadley. I brought it up to him when I first met him and he freaked, told me not to talk to Hadley about it and all this shit...reminds me of a bonded male in our world, you feel me?
Butch: Yeah, definitely weird, could he be trouble?
Vishous: Maybe, but I'll deal with him if he is.
Butch: Aww, shit man, you're not falling for this chick too, are you? We have enough love sick puppy dogs running around over here.
Vishous: *defensively* No, I'm not...and word of advice, when they start humping your leg, just put the hose on them, unless you're into that sort of thing...
Butch: F and U...those letters mean anything to you?
Vishous: Love you too, buddy.
Butch: Yeah, whatever. I'll send you the specs...let me know what you find out. I've gotta get off of here, I don't think my cell phone provider offers out of world calling.

So Vishous got on the computer and checked out the plans. He tried to explain them to me, but every time he did, a whole batch of brain cells screamed and exploded...but what he found out was that the lessers have a link to our world through my children, but if the children went with them to the other world, they would be protected and our world, along with our vampires would be safe. I can't say that I'm super excited to be losing my children, but their safety meant more to me than my selfishness.
The only other thing that might have tied them to our world was me, but Vishous seemed to think that once I turned back into a human, that tie would be broken as well.

Meanwhile, I had to talk to Sergo about the whole thing...he didn't take it well, and he was acting strange about the whole thing...

Sergo: No, absolutely not. The children have to stay here. You have to stay here.
Me: You don't seem to get the severity of the situation, Sergo. Apparently these lesser dudes are serious. They were created to kill vampires and they can get here as long as the children are here.
Sergo: How can we be so sure that they're telling the truth? Maybe the brothers just want their children, did you ever think about that?
Me: Sergo, I have lived with these men, I trust them. Why are you being so weird about this?
Sergo: It just sounds fishy to me. Maybe they're letting these things...these lessers over here.
Me: They're in a war with them, why would they do that? Besides, Vishous seems to think that when I'm a human again they won't be able to find their way back here.
Sergo: No, that's not going to work.
Me: What? Me becoming human again? That was the deal from the start, why wouldn't that work?
Sergo: Well...uh, Hadley, I don't think it's a good idea for you to turn back...at least not right away.

Me: Are you crazy? Why not? I'm tired of being a vampire, I miss the sun, eating regular food, being able to go out in the day time. I'm ready to become human again.
Sergo: I don't want to talk about this right now, Hadley. I cannot allow you to turn back.

He hung up the phone. Great. I don't know what his problem is. What the hell did he mean he won't allow me to turn back? He doesn't own me. My temper started bubbling up just thinking about a man trying to control me.

Soon after that, I went into labor and it was time for Vishous to leave. He assured me that his friend, Butch would be in shortly after he left.

Vishous: Butch will be here soon. I trust him with my life and with yours, as well as the children. He might be a pain in the ass some of the time, but he's a good man.
Me: Okay, I trust you, V. I just wish you didn't have to leave so soon.
Vishous: I agree, but if I have to leave, I'm glad Butch is coming in to watch out for things. He can also stay in touch with us and will know what to do if anything goes wrong. Is Sergo straightened out?

Me: No, but I'll straighten him out myself. Don't worry about that.
Vishous: *laughed* Ya' know, I take back what I said earlier...
Me: About what?
Vishous: You could come between brothers...very easily.
Me: What do you mean?
Vishous: I understand why Rhage and Phury are so enamored with you, why they have been fighting over who you cared about more...and why they would have been so willing to give up their lives before to be with you.

Me: Aww, V...are you saying you like me?
Vishous: I'm saying you're a hell of a woman...a woman that could probably make me a better man. If circumstances were different...

I pulled him into one last passionate kiss.
He pulled away and smirked, then smiled.
Vishous: Whew, trying to make it hard on a guy, aren't you?
Me: Sorry, can't help it. *wink*

He pulled me into a deep hug.
Vishous: Be careful, don't do anything stupid and be safe.
Me: I will, I promise.

As Vishous was leaving, Rachel ran up to him to say goodbye.
Rachel: I just wanted to say thinks.
Vishous: No problem, you know I'm going to kick your ass all over the place when you get to my world, right?

In response, she hugged him tight.
Rachel: I would expect nothing less.

He also said goodbye to Artie, who was excited about going to the other world to hang out with his dad and the other brothers. After that, Vishous left.

Right after, it was birthday time.

Rachel grew up to be just as beautiful as she was before. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do, either act or be a professional chef, but she would continue the AA meetings while she was here and apparently Phury has some substance abuse issues as well, so he plans to take her to the ones in his world.

Artie grew up to be a handsome man. He decided to keep his hair long and curly and is thinking about becoming a teacher.

As a teen, Wellsie grew up to be skinny as a rail with an offbeat sense of humor. To look at her, one might think she would blow away at the slightest breeze, but she's made of much tougher stuff.

Sue still had her weight problem and having a super skinny twin didn't help anything. Her weight and some of the things people said were really starting to get to her. The only problem was, no matter what she did, no matter how little she ate or how much exercise she did, she stayed that size.

Quinn obviously looked a lot like Vishous with those big eyes that look like they can see right into the soul. I wonder if the girls would get any of their fathers powers...

Tina looked a little more like me, but I can see Vishous in her as well.

***BACK TO PRESENT DAY***

So that's the beginning of the story...and the rest will have to keep for another day. To lift the dark cloud over me, I've decided it's time for a makeover.

I changed my hairstyle and dyed it platinum blonde...

Then I went to the salon and got some fake tan stuff...and this hot new outfit...hopefully just the thing I need to lift my spirits.

Babies 30 & 31: Let's Set the Record Straight

After the incident where Rachel came home drunk and I grounded her, she seemed a lot better. She stuck to staying home and dancing...

She even started hanging out with her younger sisters. I'm hoping it sticks...Sue and Wellsie could certainly use a good role model in an older sister.

She's doing so well, I let her off the hook.

Meanwhile, Vishous was of course still here, as the new baby hasn't been born yet. After he was here for awhile, I noticed something weird about him. Every time I started to tell him something, he would already know what I was going to say. I finally decided to ask him about it.

Me: The other day when I was about to ask you to take the trash out, before I could even say anything, you answered me...and you do that all the time...what's up with that?
Vishous: I'm surprised you didn't notice before, I'm actually telepathic. I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier.
Me: Hmm, I don't guess it matters. I'm generally an open book.
Vishous: True...generally everything that goes through your mind comes out of your mouth anyway.

Vishous: There's actually something else. I also have the gift of foresight.
Me: Foresight? You mean you can see the future?
Vishous: Yes...and I wanted to talk to you about Rachel...
Me: What about her?
Vishous: Well, here's the thing about my gift: I can tell what's going to happen in the future, but I have no idea when exactly it's going to happen. It's more of a curse actually...
Me: Okay, so what does this have to do with Rachel?
Vishous: *pauses* I can sometimes see how someone is going to...*gulp*...going to die...and even though I don't know exactly when for Rachel, I could tell that she was very young...

I feel like I've been hit in the head with a sledgehammer and rubbed raw with sand paper at the same time. Is he seriously telling me that my daughter is going to die soon?

Me: *gulp* Did you see how it happens?
Vishous: Yes...but...
Me: Tell me.
Vishous: It might not...
Me: TELL me.
Vishous: It's dark...nighttime...she's at a place with a lot of nature, a park, I think. Someone else is with her. She is talking to someone and they give her something...then she gets groggy. Then she passes out...and no one finds her...
Me: This is not going to happen.
Vishous: How can you be so sure?
Me: Because I'm going to lock her in her room until she graduates.

***RACHEL'S POV***

So, I work really hard to earn my mom's trust, do better in school, and finally get ungrounded! I call Jasmine...it's time to celebrate!

I wait for Mom to go to bed, then I head out!

Jas and I meet outside of The Indigo Room.
Jasmine: Hey girl, it took me forever to get out of the house, my dad is such a nazi!
Me: I know, right? A fun nazi! Haha!

Me: I am so done with high school...I can't wait to be out of that place!
Jasmine: I hear ya there, babe! I'm so ready for graduation!

So after yacking, we go inside and get our drink on! I'm telling you, drinking makes everything better!

Me: I want to kiss the man that invented alcohol!
Jasmine: You think this is good...I heard from this guy at school that his older brother knows a guy that sells this stuff you can take that is better than drinking...and you can take it during school...
Me: Wow, really? That would be awesome...
Jasmine: Interested? I can give him a call...

So Jasmine calls her friend...who calls his brother...who calls his friend...then they all call each other again and tell us the guy is willing to meet us, even though it's on short notice.

So we go to the park to meet this guy, but then Jasmine gets a call from her dad, who is flipping out and she has to go. Great, so that's how I found myself standing in front of a drug dealer by myself at night...yeah, sure, this is totally safe...*note the sarcasm*

D.D.: Hey there, sexy.
Me: *throw up in mouth* Hey...uh, are you...
D.D.: Shh, on names...feds could be watching...
Me: Uh...ok...
D.D.: So you got the cash?
Me: Yeah...

I hand him my entire life savings...geez, this stuff is expensive. It better be worth it.

D.D.: You know, I could maybe save you some money...
Me: Really? How?
D.D.: I'm sure we could come up with some kind of...arrangement.

He leers at me and I want to gag, especially once I realize what he's talking about.

Me: Um, no...thanks.

So he gives me a bag of pills and leaves. Hmm, that was easy enough. I pop one of the pills and swig it with a beer I took from the club.

At first, I feel more relaxed than I have in a long time. It did feel like drinking, but better. But soon, I started feeling like I could barely stand up.

I feel like I might pass out and puke at the same time. Everything is fuzzy and there's no one else around...

I'm really scared...I'm here alone, that guy could come back....and I keep wanting to pass out. Everything is fuzzy...I don't know what to do...I have never felt so alone in my whole life. I move toward the bench and I can feel myself falling. Just as I am about to collapse on the park bench, I see a dark figure coming toward me with a bright light. Could it be the angel of death? He catches me and holds me. The bright light feels warm through my body. I start to feel better. He speaks.

Angel of Death: Your father would never forgive me if you died on my watch.

As I started to come to, I realize it isn't the angel of death, but it's Vishous.

Me: What happened?
Vishous: I got to you just in time. A few minutes later...

I start sobbing and bury my face in his shoulder. He rubs my back and comforts me. I can tell he seems uncomfortable, but he's trying.

Vishous: Let's get you home.

So we head home, but instead of letting me go to bed, he makes me sit up with him.

Vishous: Okay, let's have a chat.
Me: How did you know where I was?
Vishous: I just did, it's not important. What I'm more concerned about is what you were doing there in the first place.
Me: I don't know...just trying to have fun...take the edge off a little bit.
Vishous: Take the edge off what?
Me: I don't know...
Vishous: Yes you do...

Me: It's just really hard dealing with stuff, ya know?
Vishous: What kind of stuff?
Me: Just life, I guess. School, my younger siblings, my mom...I want to do everything right for them, but it's hard sometimes.
Vishous: Now you sound like your father.

Me: I wouldn't know...he skipped out before I could remember him.
Vishous: It wasn't exactly like that...
Me: Than exactly how was it? All my life I've heard from my mom and my older brothers about what a great guy my dad was, but if he's so great, why isn't he here?
Vishous: Rachel, it practically killed your father to have to leave you and your brothers. I have never in my years met a person more selfless, nurturing, and caring than him. Do you know how he lost his leg?
Me: No...
Vishous: It got stuck in the processes of saving his brother and he chose to shoot it off and save his brother rather than let his brother die and save his leg.
Me: Yeah, I know he must really care for his brother, but he must not care that much for me...
Vishous: That's where your wrong. He loves you more than you could ever possibly know...
Me: ...but...
Vishous: He is following the orders of his king, as am I, but make no mistake. That does not mean he doesn't care about you. He would tear through the asshole of the world and then crawl through it to be with you if he could.

I wonder if what Vishous is telling me about my dad is true when I realize that he wouldn't have any reason to lie to me.

Me: Hmm, that's quite possibly the sweetest thing I've ever heard....at least with the word asshole in it.
Vishous laughs and rolls his eyes: Ok, kiddo, nobody likes a smart ass.
Me: So are you going to tell my mom?
Vishous: Nope, you are.

***HADLEY'S POV***

I woke up this morning in a really good mood. Even though I'm about a thousand years pregnant, I feel really good.

As I came out of my bedroom, I found Rachel pacing in front of my door.
Me: What's the matter babe?
Rachel: Mom, I need to talk to you...
Me: Okay...

She goes into this whole story about going out and drinking last night, then taking these pills she bought off a guy in the park...then about Vishous finding her.

Rachel: Mom, I'm so sorry, I swear. I'm never going to do any of this again.

Rachel: I swear...I'm thinking of going to AA...I think I have a real problem with drinking...
Me: I do to...I think you could really benefit from an AA meeting.
Rachel: So you're not mad?
Me: I can't say I'm particularly happy with you, but if you are honestly telling me you're turning your life around, I'm happy for you.

I pull her into a hug before sending her off to school.

As I see the kids off, my water breaks and I get a strong contraction.

So Vishous and I are off to the hospital.

A couple hours later, we welcomed Baby 30: Quinn Reed into the world...

And her sister, Baby 31: Tina Reed.
